Union officer quits

Alex Gayson, a supervisor in the Redondo Beach Police Department's property and evidence room and former president of Redondo Beach City Employees Association (RBCEA), abruptly left his job in September after city officials apparently asked for, and received, his resignation.

City officials have given no specific reason for the departure.

Redondo Beach Police Chief Mel Nichols said, "I can't comment on that because it is a personnel matter."

Seeking friends

Operators of a program funded by the Beach Cities Health District called "Special Friends" are looking for a few good mentors. Adults are needed "to share skills, talents and experiences with children in beach city schools," said Elaine Galarza. Two hours a week are needed. Mentors provide emotional support and aid with homework. Information can be obtained by calling Galarza at 320-3322. ER
