Kites to fly

Plan in advance for Sunday, March 12. That's the date of the 25th annual Festival of the Kite to be held on the Redondo Beach Pier. Events will begin at noon and conclude at dark. All kids under 10 and seniors over 65 will receive a free kite for as long as supplies last, courtesy of Sunshine Kite Co. For more information call (310) 372-0308.


Sign up to sponsor a duck in the Redondo Union High School duck race in the RUHS pool. The event will raise scholarship funds for graduating RUHS students. The race is being staged April 8 by the Parent Teacher Student Association. Ducks sponsorships are $5 each. For more information, call (310) 798-8665 ext. 3003.

Speaking out

Redondo Beach elementary and middle school students have been awarded savings bonds for speeches on the topic "If I Could Give the World a Gift for the Year 2000." The five first place winners were Taylor Moore, 4th grade, Alta Vista School; Jamie Wilcox, 5th grade, Alta Vista; Tory Marshall, 6th grade, Parras Middle School; Erin Schumacher, 7th grade, Parras, and Miriam Lipton, 8th grade, Parras. Each winner received a $75 savings bond.
