Mira Costa decision upheld

An arbitrator has ruled that Mira Costa did not violate a teachers union collective bargaining agreement when it reassigned an educational counselor in 1999. Lawyers for the school district said the decision vindicated Mira Costa Principal Lynn McCormack, who reassigned Robert Fish in 1999. Fish will remain in his duties as athletic director.

Police Beat

My Left Feet

A teenager stole two pairs of Air Jordan sneakers from a store in the 3200 block of Sepulveda Boulevard last Saturday, police said. Unfortunately for the suspect, all four Air Jordans that he stole were left-footed. The incident began when three males and a female entered the shoe store in the Manhattan Beach Village mall with an empty Robinson-Mays shopping bag. One of the males asked to try on a pair of Air Jordans. When the clerk came back with the sneakers, he noticed the Robinson-Mays shopping bag stuffed full of Air Jordans. Then he noticed the Air Jordans from his shoe display were missing. As he retreated to the cash register, police said, the suspect walked out the door with the shopping bag. The victim contacted a security guard, who followed the suspect into the parking lot. The suspect drove off in a black Blazer, police said.
