Welcome to our house…

A demonstration by the Redondo Beach Police Department SWAT team will be among the activities Sunday, Oct. 7, at the Redondo Beach Police Department and the Public Safety Commission Community Safety Fair and Police Department Open House. Activities at the police department and civic center begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 3 p.m. Other features will include K-9 demonstrations, displays of both police and fire department equipment, tours of the police facility, and firearms training simulation (FATS). "Typically, police departments are pretty insulated from the public," Police Chief Mel Nichols said. "What we are trying to do is try to break that mold. The whole idea is to give people the chance to talk to officers in a non-critical situation, where it’s not 2 in the morning at a crime scene and the officer is in control mode. It gives people a chance to see where we live, work, and play."
