Sand & Strand Run/Walk to be held Sunday
Now in its 56th year, the event begins with the 2.5-mile run at 8 a.m. on the north side of the Hermosa Beach Pier at the shoreline and finishes on the Strand just south of the pier.
At 8:15 a.m., children 10 & under begin warming up on the north side of the pier for the Munchkin Run which consists of 25 to 100 yard sprints. The cost is $8 and includes t-shirts and ribbons for all participants. The 5-mile run begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by the 2.5-mile walk at 9:35 a.m.

American Martyrs hosts 5K
American Martyrs School will be holding its annual 5K race at 8 a.m. Saturday. The fast and challenging 3.1-mile course begins at the campus located at 1701 Laurel Ave. and runs through the Manhattan Beach Tree Section.

Race day registration fees for the certified race are $28 for adults, $22 for children and $55 for families. Post-race festivities include a continental breakfast (with prepaid race bib), costume contest (cash awards for single and team), and awards ceremony (cash award to first overall male and female. Medals will be awarded to the first three male and female finishers in each age group, excluding overall winners).

STD Triple Crown Showdown
The second Annual STD’s Triple Crown Showdown is scheduled for March 22 in Redondo, March 29 in Manhattan and April 5 in Hermosa. Entry forms will be available at local surf shops.

Coed Flag Football on the Beach tournament set
A blind-draw coed flag football on the beach tournament is slated for Saturday at 10th Street and The Strand in Hermosa Beach.

Action begins at 10 a.m. with each 2-guy, 2-girl team playing a minimum of two games. Cost is $20 per person if pre-registered, $25 the day of the tournament. Nike Football Combine Clinic set
Velocity Sports Performance in Redondo Beach will be holding a clinic to prepare high school football players for the upcoming Nike Football Combine. Velocity's coaches will review each drill and teach players techniques to maximize their performance at the combine. The clinic will be held at the Velocity Sports Performance training center on Saturday, March 1 from 3-6 p.m. and costs $75/player. Soccer camp set for girls
The Force Soccer Club will be hosting a camp for girls ages 10-11 who play AYSO or club soccer. Led by former USC women’s head coach Jim Millinder, the camp features skills training sessions with hands-on instruction.

The session will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Mira Costa High School. Space is limited. The cost is $65.

Football Combine Mini Camps continue at Aviation Field
Mini Camps sponsored by Star Sports Performance continue in preparation for the NIKE Combine Saturday, March 15. Get ready to show your athletic skills, get tested professionally, and see other elite players. All athletes from classes 2009 through 2012 are invited. First camp is free, $10 each additional camp. Registration opens for volleyball league
The United States Youth Volleyball League (USYVL) is holding early registration for its spring 2008 season which runs from April 21 through June 11.

Open to boys and girls ages 7-14, the program teaches the fundamentals of volleyball such as serving, passing, setting and spiking. The league in Hermosa Beach meets at South Park Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-7 p.m.

Fees are $135 until March 1 and $175 for late registration until April 1. Multiple child discounts are available.
