Movie riot
Redondo officers were called to assist when a melee broke out at the AMC movie theaters in the Del Amo Fashion Centre last Saturday. At about 9:25 p.m., Torrance Police Department requested mutual aid at their AMC theaters due to large crowds fighting and attacking TPD officers. TPD officers were handling a petty theft incident when they were surrounded by a large crowd. The crowd attacked the officers, punching many of them. According to police reports, fights broke out between numerous patrons of the AMC inside the theaters, outside in the lobby, on the escalators leading to the parking lot, and in the parking lot. A Redondo Beach Police Department sergeant and seven officers assisted with crowd control until order was restored. Police Officers from Gardena, El Camino College, Hawthorne, and Manhattan Beach also responded to assist. RBPD officers cleared the area at about 10:30 p.m. ER
