Hermosa police arrested three young adults in the violent robbery of a homeless man after witnesses identified one of the suspects as a man they had seen arrested before on the reality TV show “Ocean Force — Hermosa Beach.”
The three suspects – two men and a woman – allegedly beat and kicked the homeless man repeatedly and robbed him of about $200 in state disability money while he was down on the ground, Hermosa Beach Police Sgt. Robert Higgins said.
All three were arrested on suspicion of robbery and booked into the Hermosa Beach Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Police responded to a report of a homeless man being robbed in about the 1100 block of The Strand about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7. Officers found the victim near the scene of the crime with obvious injuries to his face, Higgins said.
The man told police he had been beaten, kicked and robbed. Witnesses described the suspects, and told officers that they had previously watched Hermosa police arrest one of the suspects on the law enforcement reality show “Ocean Force — Hermosa Beach.”
Police identified that suspect as a 22-year-old Hermosa man and detained him and the other two suspects near his home. The other two were described as 19-year-old Hermosans, one a man and one a woman.
In the televised arrest, Hermosa police had nabbed the 22-year-old man on suspicion of public intoxication in July 2007, Higgins said. That arrest was taped and aired on the reality show, which aired on the truTV network.
“All three suspects were positively identified by the victim as committing the robbery,” Higgins said. “Further, the suspects had the victim’s money and other identifiable stolen items in their possession.”
Police urged anyone with information about the case to call Detective Mick Gaglia at (310) 318-0360. ER
