Ocean expo
The Hermosa Beach Historical Society will host an exposition on the history of paddleboarding and lifeguarding, 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Hermosa Playhouse and the adjacent historical museum, in the Community Center complex at Pier Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway.
The expo will feature exhibits, film shorts, music and raffle prizes. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children, with proceeds going to the museum.
The expo will highlight lifeguarding including water rescues, first aid and the iconic Junior Lifeguard program. Two documentaries by Buddy Bond will feature the lifeguards and a documentary by George Loren will feature paddleboarders.

True friends
Friends of the Library will hold a 50th anniversary celebration 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 at the local branch of the Los Angeles County Public Library, 550 Pier Ave. Past Friends of the Library presidents will be honored, refreshments will be served, and the Friends will announce a surprise donation to benefit the library and its patrons. Campaign event
The Howard Fishman for City Council campaign will hold a fundraiser 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23 at Sangria Restaurant on the Pier Plaza. Food, beer and wine, and live entertainment will be available. Donation is $35. ER
